Cashless society IELTS Outweigh Essay

In today’s increasingly digitalised world, money is no exception to the worldwide shift towards virtual platforms. After careful consideration, I firmly believe that the merits of a cashless society significantly outweigh its drawbacks. This essay will examine both perspectives before demonstrating why going cashless is not only more practical but also more advantageous in the modern era.

On the one hand, digital transactions provide pragmatic solutions to many contemporary challenges and are becoming indispensable with the advancement of technology. Conducting trade exclusively in cash is gradually becoming unfeasible, given that the majority of commercial activities now occur online. For instance, leading e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart rely primarily on digital payment modes, including debit and credit cards or “buy now, pay later” schemes. These methods are not only swift and instantaneous but also supported by multiple layers of advanced security such as OTPs, two-factor authentication, biometrics, and facial recognition. Furthermore, the absence of physical cash reduces the risk of theft, while the availability of detailed transaction records enhances financial accountability and transparency.

On the other hand, a cashless society is not devoid of shortcomings. Digital payments are contingent upon access to electronic devices and a stable internet connection, which can be problematic in rural or underdeveloped regions. In such areas, limited technological infrastructure and digital illiteracy often hinder smooth transactions. Additionally, the ease of making payments online can foster impulsive spending. Credit card misuse, excessive borrowing through EMIs, and high interest rates can trap individuals in a cycle of debt. Nevertheless, these pitfalls can largely be mitigated through financial literacy and responsible usage, thereby turning potential disadvantages into manageable challenges.

In conclusion, while a cashless economy may present certain limitations such as dependence on technology and the temptation of overspending, its benefits in terms of safety, efficiency, transparency, and convenience are undeniable. By embracing digital finance prudently, societies can maximise these advantages and pave the way towards a more secure, inclusive, and technologically progressive future.
