📈 Band 9 Model Answer by Lifestyle Training Centre :
The two given pie charts illustrate the percentage distribution of devices used by young Canadians aged 18 to 25 for watching television in the years 2009 and 2019. The devices include mobile phones, laptops, tablets, desktop computers, flat-screen TVs, and conventional televisions.
Overall, there was a notable shift in viewing preferences over the decade. While conventional TVs, once the dominant choice, experienced a dramatic decline in usage, flat-screen TVs and mobile phones emerged as the most preferred devices for television consumption by 2019.
In 2009, conventional televisions were accounted for the largest share at 34%, but this figure plummeted to just 4% a decade later. Similarly, the usage of laptops and desktop computers declined, falling from 20% and 18% respectively in 2009 to 12% each by 2019.
In contrast, the popularity of newer technologies surged. The proportion of flat-screen TV users rose significantly from 8% to 27%, making it the most widely used device in 2019. Likewise, the use of mobile phones increased sharply, climbing from 15% to 26% over the ten-year period. Tablets, which were accounted for only 5% of viewership in 2009, also witnessed a remarkable rise, reaching 19% by 2019.
