  1. What are your reasons for choosing a career in nursing?

    Answer: My long-term ambition is to work as a registered nurse in an English-speaking country such as the UK or Ireland. To meet the registration requirements, demonstrating proficiency in English is crucial. Hence, I opted for the OET, which aligns with the specific needs of nursing professionals.
  3. What do you perceive as the current trends in the nursing profession?
    Answer: Nursing is a dynamic field with ever-evolving trends. Technology plays a pivotal role, transitioning from paper records to electronic records. Evidence-based practice is now standard, ensuring a scientific rationale for procedures. Furthermore, nurses can take on roles akin to nurse practitioners, akin to physicians.
  4. Could you name a role model within your profession and explain their influence on you?
    Answer: Certainly, my role model is my mother. She embodies qualities I consider essential for nurses—kindness, decision-making skills, organization, humility, and a spirit of helping and sharing. Her compassion and respect for everyone she encounters continue to inspire me. She is, undoubtedly, my superhero.
  5. Which destination holds a special place in your heart, and why is it your favorite?
    Answer: My dream destination is Australia. Firstly, it boasts a world-class healthcare system where I can contribute my nursing skills. Secondly, Australia offers a high standard of living along with economic and political stability. Nurses are well-compensated and respected there. Additionally, I have a network of friends and relatives in Australia who can provide invaluable support during my initial days.
  6. In your opinion, what qualities are crucial for a nurse to possess?
    Answer: Nurses should encompass a diverse range of qualities. Effective communication skills are paramount for gathering clinical data and fostering strong team relationships. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills are vital for handling emergencies and complex situations. Additionally, punctuality, dedication, honesty, and competency are pivotal attributes for nurses.
  7. Describe the various roles that nurses undertake in their profession. Answer: Nurses fulfill multiple roles in their profession. Primarily, they are caregivers, providing direct patient care. Beyond that, nurses serve as mediators, advocates, counselors, educators, and more. They act as critical connectors within the healthcare system, coordinating efforts across various departments for the well-being of patients.
  8. What advice would you offer aspiring nurses, especially those entering the profession?
    Answer: To future nurses, I would emphasize the importance of genuine love for the profession. Passion drives efficiency and dedication, ensuring you fulfill your responsibilities without complaints. Additionally, maintain professional standards and ethics, as nurses are expected to uphold these principles in all circumstances. These are some fundamental pieces of advice I’d like to share with future nurses.
  9. Could you walk us through a typical day in your nursing career?
    Answer: My day begins with a prayer, followed by my daily routines. By 7:30 AM, I’m at my workstation, where I complete inventories and update medication and dressing trolleys. After receiving the handover, I engage with patients to identify their health needs. Based on my assessment, I create nursing care plans to provide quality care. I also assist physicians and carry out clinical orders. Throughout the day, I maintain rapport with colleagues. My duty concludes at 3:30 PM when I hand over to the next staff members.
  10. Do you believe continuous nursing education is essential, and how has it impacted your career?
    Answer: Absolutely, continuous nursing education is crucial. It allows nurses to stay updated with evolving practices in the profession. Furthermore, many countries now require a specific number of continuing education hours for nursing registration renewal. Continuous nursing education has been instrumental in enhancing my knowledge and skills, contributing positively to my career growth.
  11. What do you consider to be your greatest strength as a nurse, and how does it benefit your patients?
    Answer: I believe my greatest strength as a nurse is my exceptional communication ability. I actively listen to patients, ensuring their concerns are heard and addressed. Effective communication not only helps in gathering critical clinical data but also fosters trust and comfort among patients. It plays a pivotal role in delivering quality care.
  12. What challenges do you face in your role as a nurse, and how do you handle them?
    Answer: One of the challenges I encounter in my role as a nurse is dealing with situations where I feel helpless. When I see patients in pain or distress and am limited in what I can do, it’s emotionally challenging. To cope, I remind myself that I’m doing everything within my capacity to provide comfort and care. It’s important to focus on what I can control and continue to offer support.

    Answer: I find the best way to handle the stress of being a nurse is through meticulous organization and attention to detail. By making lists and prioritizing tasks throughout my day, even seemingly overwhelming tasks become more manageable. This approach helps me stay calm and remain focused when unexpected situations arise.
  14. What do you find is the hardest part about being a nurse?
    Answer: The hardest thing I’ve had to deal with in my role as a nurse is feeling helpless. When patients are in pain or distress, and I can’t do more to alleviate their suffering, it’s emotionally challenging. However, I remind myself that I’m doing my best within my capacity to provide comfort and support.
  15. Are you comfortable working with other doctors and nurses?
    Answer: I work well under a variety of conditions and circumstances, and I take pride in my flexibility. I enjoy working in a team because different viewpoints can lead to innovative solutions. However, I am equally comfortable working alone and am self-motivated.
  16. Would you say you’re a team player?
    Answer: Yes, I consider myself a team player. I work well in diverse conditions and value the input of colleagues with different perspectives. Collaborating within a team often leads to creative solutions to challenges. However, I am also self-motivated and can work effectively independently.
  17. How do you handle conflicts or disagreements within the healthcare team?
    Answer: When conflicts or disagreements arise within the healthcare team, I believe in open and respectful communication. I listen to different viewpoints, seek common ground, and work towards solutions that prioritize patient care. If necessary, I involve supervisors or team leaders to mediate and ensure a harmonious working environment.
  18. Can you share an example of a challenging patient interaction and how you handled it?
    Answer: Certainly, I once had a patient who was extremely anxious about a surgical procedure. Despite reassurances, the patient was hesitant and fearful. I took extra time to sit with the patient, answer all their questions, and provide emotional support. By actively listening to their concerns and addressing them with empathy, I was able to alleviate their anxiety and build trust. The procedure went smoothly, and the patient expressed gratitude for the care and understanding.
  19. How do you stay updated with the latest advancements and best practices in nursing?
    Answer: I prioritize continuous learning by regularly attending workshops, seminars, and conferences related to nursing. Additionally, I subscribe to nursing journals and publications to stay informed about the latest research and advancements in the field. Networking with colleagues and sharing experiences also contributes to my professional growth.
  20. Can you describe a situation where your quick thinking and decision-making skills were put to the test, and how did you handle it?
    Answer: Once, during a night shift, I encountered a patient who suddenly showed signs of respiratory distress. I quickly assessed the situation, initiated emergency protocols, and provided immediate care. I remained calm and coordinated with the medical team to stabilize the patient. Prompt decision-making and teamwork were crucial in that critical moment, and the patient’s condition improved due to our swift response.
