IELTS reading (Academic and General) can be very interesting and enjoyable if you understand the way it works. Kindly watch this live class before we move any further.
Tips to score a high band score for IELTS reading:
- Don’t read the text first. Begin by quickly reading through the questions before delving into the text. This gives you an understanding of the types of questions you’ll encounter and allows you to read the passage with a purpose.
- Read paragraphs only once. Once you read a paragraph, go down and check if there is any related questions. Make sure to check all the questions. You should not come back and read the paragraph once more. This way, you would save time.
- 1st line of the paragraph is vital. It should give you an idea of what the paragraph is about.
- For “match the paragraph“, eliminate the irrelevant options, and you will find the correct answer.
- Be mindful about synonyms. Usually the answer is given in a different vocabulary. Guess the meanings.
- Paraphrased lines. The answers are usually given in plain text but in a different format, grammatical construction. Be wise to identify them.
- Skim and scan: Increase your ability to skim through the text rather than reading word by word.
- Use a timer: Make sure to practice using a timer, so that you would be able to complete your tasks in time. Bring the time required further down each time you practice.
- Read the Instructions (word count) Carefully: The instructions for each section may vary, so make sure you understand what is required. Even if you give the correct answer, it does no good unless proper instruction is followed.
Eg: Give the answer in a word and or a number
Right answer: 4 months
Wrong answer: Four months - Check Spelling: Correct spelling is important. If a word is misspelled, it may be marked as incorrect.
