IELTS discussion essays are a common task in the IELTS exam. These essays require you to present a balanced argument or discuss a particular issue from different perspectives. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to structure and write an IELTS discussion essay:

1. Understand the Task:
In discussion essays, you just have to talk from a neutral point and explain about the two view points, giving equal weights to both. If you are asked to share your opinion as well, do it by adding another paragraph (total 5)

2. Introduction:
– Paraphrase the question by altering tenses, structure, conjunctions as well as by expanding the content. Transform active into passive and vice versa.

3. Structure:
– Introduction (hook, background, thesis)
– 2-3 Body Paragraphs (2 sides + your side)
– Optional Counterarguments (refute opposing views)
– Conclusion (summarize, restate thesis)

4. Language and Style:
– Use formal, academic language.
– Avoid informal language and contractions.
