A place I’ve always yearned to call home in the future is the United Kingdom, with a particular fascination for the vibrant city of London. This remarkable location holds a magnetic appeal for a myriad of reasons.

What draws me to London like a moth to a flame is its status as a global melting pot, where diverse cultures come together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. The city’s rich history, iconic landmarks, and thriving arts scene have always been a profound source of fascination. Moreover, the prospect of daily interaction with native English speakers is like music to my ears, offering the perfect environment to sharpen my language skills and gain insights into the local culture.

In terms of envisaging my life there, I see myself in a cozy apartment in one of London’s historic neighborhoods, perhaps with a picturesque view of the Thames River. IELTS Speaking task 2- A famous person

Model answer by Lifestyle Training Centre

I’ve read, learned, and heard about many distinguished individuals who have done valiant and admirable things in their lives. Among these, Mahatma Gandhi’s life story particularly captivates me. Gandhi is celebrated for his pivotal role in Indian politics, especially in the monumental struggle to overthrow the British colonisers from Indian soil.

I first learned about Gandhi through history lessons in school and later through various books, documentaries, and films that detailed his life and contributions. His name is often cited among a distinguished few global leaders who have made an indelible impact on society and the world through peaceful means.

What I admire most about Gandhi, among his extraordinary qualities and unparalleled achievements, is his unwavering dedication to non-violence even in the face of brutal oppression. Gandhi’s ability to mobilise millions without wielding a sword or pulling a trigger, advocating instead for peaceful resistance and civil disobedience, was both remarkable and inspiring. He embodied and practiced love, compassion, and tolerance, principles that have left an indelible mark worldwide. His teachings on simplicity, self-reliance, and humility continue to resonate deeply with people around the world.

Gandhi’s non-violent and humble lifestyle has had a profound impact on me, illuminating my path and urging me to eschew violence and pride. I am confident that his legacy will continue to inspire and enlighten many more lives in the years to come. If only people, societies, and even countries endeavour to embody just a fraction of the values and principles Gandhi exhibited, the world would undoubtedly be a better place.

One of the most interesting hobbies I’ve had the pleasure of pursuing is photography. My journey into photography began when I received a digital camera as a birthday gift from my parents several years ago. At the time, I had only taken casual snapshots with my phone, but this new camera opened up a whole new world of possibilities.

What I enjoy most about photography is its ability to capture moments frozen in time. With each click of the shutter, I can document the beauty of the world around me, from stunning landscapes to candid portraits of friends and family. It’s a hobby that encourages me to be more observant and appreciate the little details that often go unnoticed in our busy lives.

Photography has enriched my life in numerous ways. Firstly, it has allowed me to see the world through a different lens, both literally and metaphorically. I’ve developed a keen eye for composition and lighting, which has not only improved my photography skills but also made me more attuned to aesthetics in everyday life. Secondly, it has served as a creative outlet, giving me the freedom to express myself artistically. Whether I’m experimenting with long-exposure night shots or capturing the vibrant colors of a bustling street market, I find immense joy in the creative process.

Moreover, photography has connected me with a community of like-minded individuals who share my passion. I’ve attended photography workshops, participated in exhibitions, and even made new friends who share my love for this art form.

As for the future, I absolutely plan to continue pursuing this hobby. It’s not just a pastime; it’s become a part of who I am. I look forward to exploring new photographic techniques, traveling to new places to capture their beauty, and using my photography to tell stories and evoke emotions. In many ways, photography has become an integral and fulfilling part of my life that I can’t imagine giving up.

A persistent environmental concern in our region is air pollution, which affects both the environment and the health of our residents. This problem primarily stems from industrial emissions, vehicular exhaust, and the burning of fossil fuels.

Our region once enjoyed better air quality. However, rapid industrialization and urbanization have led to a significant deterioration in air quality. This decline has translated into adverse health effects, including an increase in respiratory illnesses among our community members.

Efforts to counter this issue are steadily progressing. The local government consistently tightens emissions regulations and advocates for the adoption of cleaner energy sources. Simultaneously, community-led initiatives, with their roots in earlier endeavors, focus on expanding tree planting programs and enhancing green spaces, yielding a tangible improvement in air quality.

As we look ahead, it’s evident that addressing air pollution will continue to be paramount for our region. An array of cleaner transportation options, such as electric vehicles (EVs) and solar-powered transportation, promise to significantly reduce emissions and pave the way for a cleaner, more sustainable urban landscape.

Simultaneously, the promotion of public transportation, carpooling, and the adoption of more eco-friendly practices will be essential. Individuals must actively contribute to the cause by reducing their carbon footprint, fostering a collective commitment to sustainability.

This environmental issue remains important to me, as I believe that clean, healthy air is a fundamental right for all. It’s our collective responsibility to protect our environment for the well-being of current and future generations, ensuring a greener, cleaner future for our region.

List of vocabulary used:

  1. Persistent – Continuing for a long time or difficult to get rid of.

Embarking on a journey to transcend my introverted nature and conquer limited communication skills, I delved into the intricacies of the English language about five years ago. Not claiming to be the sharpest tool in the shed, I honed my English speaking skills with dedication and persistence, knowing that it could give me an edge, not only in the professional arena but also in forging meaningful connections with a diverse array of individuals.

This linguistic prowess, particularly in English, I deem as a coveted skill, a veritable ace up the sleeve in the realm of effective communication. The dividends reaped from this proficiency have been manifold.

First and foremost, navigating interviews became a breeze after mastering the art of eloquent expression. The facility to articulate thoughts seamlessly has proven invaluable not only in professional settings but also in addressing diverse audiences and engaging in spontaneous, free-flowing conversations. Gone are the days of hesitation and stumbling over words.

Is this linguistic finesse essential for others to acquire? Absolutely. In an era where the world is a global village, English stands as the lingua franca. Students, in particular, stand to gain significantly as English serves as the conduit for international communication and academic discourse.

Traveling has never been my cup of tea, and I’ve always avoided it at every possible opportunity. But life has a way of throwing you into unexpected situations. Not too long ago, I embarked on a journey to Nagaland with my wife, and it turned out to be an experience I’ll never forget—though not entirely for the best reasons.

The journey was quite the adventure. It began with a gruelling three-day train ride to Dimapur, Nagaland’s largest city. The landscapes changed dramatically as we moved across regions—from bustling urban centres to tranquil, rolling hills and lush greenery. Upon arriving at Dimapur, we embarked on a three-hour uphill drive to Jalukie Village, where my wife’s family lives. The roads were winding and dotted with charming villages, and the view of mist-covered mountains was nothing short of breathtaking. However, the hairpin bends left me feeling green around the gills, as I’m not great with motion sickness.

When we finally reached the village, I was greeted with unparalleled warmth and hospitality. The locals’ friendliness and their deep connection to nature were inspiring. I immediately felt welcomed by my wife’s family and their friends. Nagaland’s culture is incredibly vibrant, from its colourful attire and soulful music to its unique culinary traditions.

On the second day, I decided to throw caution to the wind and sample some local delicacies. The spread included fermented bamboo shoots, smoked meat, and even fried insects. At first, I was hesitant, but I pushed myself to try these exotic flavours. To my surprise, the food was delicious—earthy, spicy, and full of character.

Unfortunately, my culinary bravery soon backfired. Within a few hours, I began feeling unwell, and before I knew it, I was rushed to the hospital. It turns out I had a severe allergic reaction to one of the dishes I’d tried. The whole village came together to help, and my wife was on pins and needles the entire time. By the grace of God, I recovered quickly and was discharged the next day.

This trip was a mix of challenges and learning moments. While it taught me the importance of being cautious, it also opened my eyes to the richness of a culture I’d never experienced before. I gained immense respect for the people of Nagaland—their resilience, warmth, and strong sense of community.

Though I may not be eager to venture far afield anytime soon, this trip taught me that stepping out of one’s comfort zone can lead to incredible growth and unforgettable memories. I’ve come to appreciate the beauty of diversity, even if it sometimes comes with its own set of challenges.

Note: this is a made up, spontaneous story and was framed by Jomon during one of the IELTS sessions. There is nothing to be feared when comes to Naga food.

One of my favourite relaxing places near water is a small lake located in the outskirts of my town. It’s a peaceful, serene spot, surrounded by lush greenery, which makes it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The lake is not very far from the town, so it’s easy to reach in under 30 minutes by car or even by bike.

I usually visit this place on weekends, either with a few friends or sometimes just on my own when I need some solitude. When I get there, I like to walk around the lake’s perimeter, taking in the scenic views. The air is incredibly fresh, and the gentle sound of water lapping against the shore is incredibly calming. On some days, I bring a small picnic with me, or I just sit by the water, reading a book or listening to music. Occasionally, I’ve gone for a paddle in a kayak, which is an exhilarating but relaxing way to experience the calmness of the water.

What I love most about this place is its tranquility. Unlike crowded beaches or parks, this lake remains relatively quiet, which allows me to unwind and clear my mind. The setting is absolutely beautiful—especially during sunset when the sky reflects off the water, creating a magical atmosphere.
