A few months ago, I had a conversation that left a lasting impression on me. It was one of those discussions that made me pause, reflect, and look at life through a completely new lens. The conversation took place at my home one evening over a cup of tea with my childhood friend, Ravi, who had recently returned from volunteering at an orphanage in a remote village.

Ravi shared his profound experiences of working with children who had very little in terms of material possessions but carried an abundance of resilience and joy. He described how these children, despite their hardships, would light up at the smallest acts of kindness—a simple book, a shared story, or even a warm hug. What struck me the most was when Ravi said, “Happiness doesn’t come from what you have but from what you give.”

That single statement became a catalyst for a major shift in my mindset. We delved deeper into the topic, discussing the meaning of contentment and how it often eludes those who chase it in material things. Ravi narrated a specific incident about a boy who had lost his parents but found joy in helping others. It was a poignant reminder of the strength of the human spirit.

What made this conversation truly unforgettable was not just the inspiring stories but the way Ravi spoke—with a calm yet powerful conviction that came from first-hand experience. His words were not just opinions; they were truths he had lived through. I could feel the depth of his emotions and the impact of his journey in every word.

This conversation brought us closer than ever before. It reminded me of why I value Ravi so much—not only as a friend but as a person who challenges my perspectives and encourages me to grow. Following that discussion, I decided to volunteer at a local NGO, something I had always wanted to do but kept postponing.

In hindsight, this conversation was a turning point in my life. It made me realise the importance of empathy and giving back to society. To this day, I cherish that evening as one of the most meaningful moments of my life, and it’s a memory I often revisit whenever I feel the need for inspiration or clarity.
